Vincent Condon – Musical Director

Vincent Condon’s long association with the Gleneagle Concert Band began over 20 years ago when he joined the teaching staff in 1993 before being appointed musical director in 2004. A native of Cork, Vincent is a graduate of the Cork School of Music where he obtained a B.Mus and M.A. in clarinet performance. Winner of both the senior woodwind and senior piano competitions at FeisMaitiu Cork, Vincent was also awarded first prize in the Cork School of Music Senior Concerto Competition as well as receiving 14 scholarships on piano and clarinet at the Cork School of Music annual instrumental exams.
Vincent has studied with internationally acclaimed clarinet teachers such as Brian O’ Rourke (Former Principal Clarinet, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland), Michael Rusinek (Principal Clarinet, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra) and Richard Addison (Principal Clarinet, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London) and has performed as a concerto soloist with the Cork School of Music Symphony Orchestra and the City of Cork Symphony Orchestra. Other ensembles he has performed in include the RTE Concert Orchestra, Irish National Youth Orchestra, Irish National Wind Ensemble, Irish Operatic Repertory Company, Opera Ireland and the Carl Rosa Opera Company. Throughout his career Vincent has been fortunate to work with world renowned soloists such as Nigel Kennedy (violin), Julian Lloyd Webber (cello), Nicola Benedetti (violin), Tasman Little (violin) and Michael Collins (clarinet).
In 2002 Vincent successfully passed an audition to play with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra and received an Irish Arts Council scholarship to perform with this ensemble on its summer tour to Pittsburgh, New York, Washington, Boston and Atlanta under the baton of some of the world’s leading wind band conductors.
Vincent has also toured to Austria, Hungry, France, Spain, Germany, UK, Holland, Italy and Belgium throughout his career with various concert bands and orchestras.
Having worked in every sphere of the wind band movement Vincent balances a hectic performance schedule with conducting, teaching and music administration. Vincent has tutored on the Irish Wind Ensemble courses and regularly works with concert bands throughout the country as a conductor, clarinet teacher, music theory teacher, examiner, master class clinician, education co-ordinator and as a band development consultant.
Vincent is a member of the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE), is employed by the County Cork School of Music and is principal clarinettist with the City of Cork Symphony Orchestra.
