THEY have provided hours of entertainment for locals and visitors with a series of free open air concerts on the streets of Killarney this summer and their reward is a super new look that will set heads turning.
After 11 years of concerts at home and abroad, the old Gleneagle Concert Band uniforms have been retired and replaced with slick black waist jackets, black shirts, red ties and black pants as well as smart fleece jackets for outdoor performances and parades.
To enhance the visual aspect to the band’s performances, members worked over a period of months with the design team at the Gleneagle Hotel to create a new uniform complete with a very unique crest.
Gleneagle graphic designer, Sharon O’Keeffe, remarked: “Taking inspiration from the intricate structure and pattern of the brass instruments, I created a unique bespoke design, with elements of a Celtic nature.
“The twisting, coiling and intertwining of the design represents the unison of the band working, supporting and complementing one another and the community while also creating beautiful music.”
Band conductor Vincent Condon commented: “We are delighted with the professional image our new uniform and crest offers as they reflect the excellent musical standard of the band.”
“Our new uniforms will serve our needs for the next 10 years and we are very grateful to the Gleneagle Hotel for their continued commitment to Killarney’s town band”.
The Gleneagle School of Music and Concert Band is currently recruiting new members for September. Children aged nine and upwards are invited to join and there are a limited number of instruments available, free of charge, on a first-come first-served basis.
